The Shawnee Theatre of Greene County mission is to promote and foster the presentation and teaching the art of live professional theatre in Greene and surrounding counties.
Shawnee's purpose is two-fold, we provide quality, live stage presentations to our patrons as well as
a venue for artists of all ages and disciplines to practice their craft and gain valuable experience in all
aspects of theatre.
Celebrating our 58th year of productions, the Shawnee Theatre of Greene County is Indiana's oldest continuously operated
professional summer theatre. Way back in 1960, the curtain rose on our first play and a Hoosier
tradition was born. The theatre began productions in a barn with gravel floors in Bloomfield, Indiana, before moving to a
brand new facility in 1979, just south of Bloomfield on Furnace Road. Thanks to a $271,000 grant
from the Lilly Endowment through the Greene County Foundation, we were able in 1998 to give the
theatre a face- lift, replacing the stage floor, lighting and sound systems, heating and air conditioning,
and renovating the lobby and company housing, as well as adding handicapped accessible
