Working at Shawnee far exceeded my expectations for any summer stock experience. I absolutely loved every minute of it. Everyone who worked at the theatre was incredible. Not only were they all talented and dedicated to their craft, but they were always professional and willing to contribute however was necessary, and as a result, we were a fantastic team. Every day we grew and learned together, and we made the best theatre we possibly could. We worked with a variety of directors, all of whom were creative and insightful. The company was open and present, and so much fun! I think to the credit of Matt Graber, the Producing Artistic Director, everyone he hired was someone I wanted to work with, and as actors and technicians, I don't think we could have been more compatible.
The town of Bloomfield was great to be a part of for a few months. The surrounding community is extremely supportive and enthusiastic about the theatre; they were giving in a way that never ceased to amaze me.
Matt is to be commended for being courageous and committed to making the theatre the best it can be. He has a vision of how he wants to continually improve the Shawnee, and he definitely wants to bring quality work to the community. As a result, the material he chose made it so that every one of us involved could grow from the opportunities we were given, and the community response was overwhelmingly positive.
Personally, socially, and artistically, the Shawnee was an incredible experience, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
